  • HOW SHOULD I CARE FOR MY CUSTOM CABINETRY?

Proper Care for your Glenwood Cabinets

The finished solid wood and genuine wood veneer cabinet components used in Glenwood Kitchen cabinets are finished with a high quality conversion varnish or post catalyzed lacquer top coat designed to protect your cabinetry from everyday usage. Glenwood Kitchen's finishing materials are specially formulated to exceed the most stringent industry performance standard, such as E1 standard. They are resistant to moisture and most common household spills. This finish protects the wood and enhances its natural beauty. Glenwood Kitchens' finishes will remain beautiful with very little maintenance. Follow these tips on basic care of your finished items and they'll look good for many years to come.

    Important

Avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight, high humidity and excessive heat as this can damage both the finish and the wood itself. Excess moisture is one of the worst enemies of any finish. Sink, range, dishwasher, oven and baseboard areas are most susceptible to this. Immediately dry surfaces where water may have spilled using a clean cloth. For the first 20 to 30 days of a new kitchen, please keep cabinet doors open as it takes approximately 20 to 30 days for the gas to be released (to cure). This will prevent the yellowing on the back of the doors.

    To restore its original lustre...

For Clear Lacquer Colors: clean periodically with a mild soap and water or with vinegar and water. You may also use Glenwood's own "Lemon Oil" that may be purchased through us. Do not use regular lemon oils from your local store as these products may cause problems with your finish.

For Solid Lacquer Colors: clean periodically with a mild soap and water or with vinegar and water.

    Regular Cleaning

REMOVE DUST- Dust build-up, which is made up of small air borne particles, may scratch or dull the surface if not removed correctly. Simply wipe the surface with a clean cloth dampened with a fresh solution of mild soap and water or vinegar and water.

CLEAN - Fingerprints, cooking fumes, smoking residue, etc., accumulates on any finished surface. None of these contaminates will harm our finish, but they should be periodically removed to restore the finish to it's original lustre. Just wipe the surface with a clean cloth dampened with a fresh solution of mild detergent solutions. The finish is durable and resistant to most household spills. However, spills and splatters should be wiped up promptly to avoid potential problems.

CLEANING PRODUCTS TO AVOID - Avoid the use of strong soap, ammonia based products, silicone, oils, or self-polishing waxes as they may cause damage if used over a long period of time. Ammonia based cleaners will cause your finish cabinets to yellow.
